A one-day workshop for counsellors and psychotherapists

Drawing on psychoanalytic theory this workshop aims to develop understanding of the impact for clients and the therapeutic process of working with those experiencing or suffering the effects of domestic violence (DV). Theoretical perspectives along with Clinical examples will be given from various forms of DV such as coercive control, psychological and or emotional abuse, financial/economic abuse, physical and sexual abuse.

This will be an interactive workshop. Participants will be encouraged to discuss their own work and thoughts relating to this common issue.

Please note that for Diploma students this counts as one of their two annual compulsory workshops. There is no charge for diploma students. Qualified counsellors are very welcome but must pay the fee below.

Thinking about sibling issues brought to therapy by adult clients

A one-day workshop for trainees counsellors and psychotherapists with Sally Despenser

Saturday 28th March 2020, 10.00am – 4.00pm

This one day experiential, interactive workshop focuses on sibling issues brought to therapy by adult clients, including past and current difficulties in family relationships.

We will explore:

  • What childhood events and patterns may have influenced sibling interaction in adulthood
  • Issues which arise in different family constellations – step, half, blended, no siblings, ill or dead siblings.
  • Difference, envy, competition and loss, and how these may appear in the transference
  • Flash points in the life stages of sibling relationships

Sally Despenser is a freelance trainer, counsellor, supervisor and writer. She draws on 30 years of professional experience in a wide range of settings. She has written several CPD e-learning modules for BACP, and for 5 years ran CPD courses for BACP Events.

New: Certificate in Brief Therapy

Aims of the Certificate Course
This module will help participants to become familiar with the way in which contemporary
counselling and psychotherapy is in the process of turning towards “Brief Therapy” as a
preferred mode for some areas of casework.

This Course is intended for qualified practitioners (counsellors, psychotherapists) who are interested
