Supervision Course for Psychodynamic Counsellors & Therapists

This course provides an in-depth training in the theory and practice of psychodynamic supervision. The course is designed for experienced psychodynamic therapists who are interested in becoming supervisors.

The course covers the following topics:

  • The supervision process
  • Supervision planning
  • Supervision delivery
  • Supervision evaluation
  • Supervision challenges

Requires 3 years post accreditation/registration experience to ensure that applicants have a solid foundation in psychotherapy/counselling before undertaking supervision training.

Course Description:

This course provides an in-depth training in the theory and practice of psychodynamic supervision. The course is designed for experienced psychodynamic therapists who are interested in becoming supervisors. The course covers the following topics:

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Define supervision and describe its role in psychodynamic therapy
  • Identify the key components of the supervision process
  • Deliver effective supervision
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of supervision
  • Identify and address supervision challenges
  • Eligible to apply to British Association for Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervision (BAPPS) for registration.

Course Requirements:

  • Attendance and participation
  • Completion of all assignments
  • Passing final clinical essay

Course Schedule:

The course is offered over three terms. The first two terms consists of 10 academic seminars each. The seminars are held weekly for 90 mins each. The supervision of supervision groups are held weekly for 90 mins each for 44 weeks over the year; there will be a choice between two time slots for 2025-26, on a Tuesday morning before the seminar, or on a Thursday afternoon.

Course Instructors:

The course is taught by a team of experienced psychoanalytic psychotherapists, each with over 20 years of supervision experience.
